An embroidered patch is your design stitched in thread onto a tough twill backing. The raised stitching gives it texture and depth that a printed design cannot copy. It is the patch you have seen on biker vests, work uniforms, scout sashes, and team jackets for decades, and it is still the most popular patch type we make.
Here is how it works at Apex Patches. You send us your logo or idea, and our design team converts it into a stitch file, a process called digitizing. You choose the size, shape, coverage, border, and backing. We send you a free digital proof within 24 hours, and nothing goes into production until you approve it. From a single name patch to bulk embroidered patches for a whole company, every order is checked stitch by stitch before it ships.

Why Choose Embroidered Patches?
Raised, Textured Finish
Stitching you can see and feel. Your design stands off the fabric instead of lying flat on it.
Built for Daily Wear
Quality threads hold their color through washing, sunlight, and hard use, wash after wash.
A Professional Look
Dense stitching and clean edges make uniforms, merch, and team gear look official.
Any Size, Any Shape
Circles, squares, shields, ovals, or die cut to your artwork, from small sleeve patches to large jacket back patches.
Colors Matched to Your Brand
Thread colors matched to your logo, with metallic and glow in the dark threads available.
Goes on Almost Anything
Jackets, hats, uniforms, backpacks, vests, hoodies, and tote bags.
Sizes, Coverage, Borders, and Backings
Every custom embroidered patch is made to your specs. These are the choices that shape the final look and price.
Embroidery Coverage
- 50% coverage: Thread covers about half the patch and the twill base shows through. A lighter, classic look that costs less.
- 75% coverage: Most of the design is stitched, with some base fabric visible. The most popular balance of detail and price.
- 100% coverage: The entire patch is stitched edge to edge. The fullest, most premium finish.
Sizes and Shapes
Standard shapes include circle, square, rectangle, oval, and shield. Custom shapes are die cut to follow your artwork. Patch size is measured as the average of width and height, so a 3 inch wide by 2 inch tall patch counts as 2.5 inches.
Borders
- Merrowed border: A thick, wrapped thread edge. Best for standard shapes and a traditional finish.
- Hot cut border: A clean, sharp edge cut to the design. Best for custom shapes and detailed outlines.
Backing Options
- Iron-on: Bonds with a home iron in minutes. Best for jackets, shirts, and bags.
- Sew-on: The strongest, most permanent hold. Best for uniforms and workwear washed often.
- Velcro (hook and loop): Swap patches in seconds. Best for tactical gear, vests, and uniforms.
- Peel and stick: Adhesive back for events, displays, and temporary branding.
- Plastic backing: Adds stiffness and helps the patch keep its shape.
Who Orders Custom Embroidered Patches?
If it gets worn, carried, or collected, an embroidered patch probably belongs on it.
- Motorcycle clubs:Back patches, rockers, and chapter patches built to be seen on the road.
- Businesses and work crews:Logo and name patches that make every uniform look like one team.
- Sports teams and leagues:Crests, numbers, and sponsor patches for jerseys and warm ups.
- Schools, scouts, and clubs:Achievement and membership patches with a tradition behind them.
- Police, fire, EMS, and military units:Rank, flag, and unit patches made to spec.
- Brands and creators:Merch patches your customers actually want to wear.

Embroidered or Woven: Which One Do You Need?
Choose embroidered if your design is bold and you want the raised, textured, classic patch feel. Embroidery makes logos, crests, and lettering stand out from a few feet away.
Choose woven if your artwork has very small text or fine lines. Woven patches use thinner threads for sharper detail, but the finish is flat. Not sure? Send us your design and we will tell you honestly which type will look better before you spend anything.
Quick Rule of Thumb
- Bold logos and lettering:go embroidered for that classic raised texture.
- Tiny text or fine lines:go woven for sharper, flatter detail.
- Not sure:send your artwork and we will recommend the right type for free.

What Affects the Price of Embroidered Patches?
Honest answer: it depends on your design. These five things decide your per patch price:
- Size:Bigger patches use more thread and time, so they cost more.
- Quantity:The per patch price drops fast as quantity goes up. Bulk orders save the most.
- Coverage:A 100% stitched patch costs more than a 50% coverage design.
- Backing:Velcro and specialty backings add a little more than standard sew-on.
- Thread colors and specialty threads:Metallic and glow threads cost more than standard colors.
What you will never find here: hidden fees. The quote you approve is the price you pay. Send your design and get your exact price free, with no obligation.
